More About Stan Mullins

Born in North Carolina, formed artistically in Athens and Cortona, Italy, and shaped by decades of public work, international travel, and humanitarian projects, Stan Mullins has built an artistic practice that is both local and unmistakably international.

Working across painting, bronze, marble, and granite, Mullins has dedicated his career to creating art that connects people, places, and histories. From his studio on Pulaski Street in Athens, Georgia, he has produced works with connections to Italy, Rwanda, Japan, Bhutan, and the Congo. His artistic contributions extend across universities, museums, public monuments, private collections, and international cultural projects, and reflect a lifelong commitment to artistic expression and the preservation of cultural memory.

Among his notable works are the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. public sculpture in Atlanta, The Bread of Life ceiling mural in McGill, New York, and the Olympia Olympic Mural in Athens, Georgia. These projects represent just a portion of a body of work that spans continents, artistic disciplines, and generations.

Throughout his career, Mullins has explored the relationship between art and humanity, creating works that honor historical figures, commemorate significant events, and celebrate the stories that shape communities. His international experiences and humanitarian work have informed an artistic perspective that recognizes the importance of cultural exchange and the ability of art to connect people across geographic and cultural boundaries.

Despite the international reach of his career, Mullins has maintained deep ties to Athens. His Pulaski Street studio reflects the city's creative community and serves as a reminder that Athens is home to artists whose work reaches far beyond our community.

Each year, the Mayors' Show offers Historic Athens Porchfest attendees a special opportunity to gather at Mullins' studio, experience his creative environment, and celebrate the intersection of art, music, and community. It's a fitting place to bring another year of Historic Athens Porchfest to a close.
