Historic Athens Porchfest History

Presented by Cafe Racer, Historic Athens Porchfest is a free grass-roots musical festival celebrating music, history, and community in Athens, Georgia.

Founded by Tommy Valentine in 2019, Historic Athens Porchfest began with around 70 bands across 4 neighborhoods: Boulevard, Newtown, Buena Vista and Pulaski Heights. Over the years it has grown exponentially, and expanded to Cobbham and Normaltown in 2020 and Reese-Hancock in 2023, rounding out the festival to cover 7 historic neighborhoods across Athens.

All the bands playing Porchfest are either local or have ties to Athens, bringing together the community to learn more about their neighbors and the creative talent that's right in their backyard.

Currently, Historic Athens Porchfest is bringing 260+ performances across 7 historic neighborhoods of Athens, incorporating Boo-Le-Bark, offering free trolley rides circulating the festival with Athens Trolley Tours, adding a local Vendors Market with Indie South for local artisans and craftspeople, a Food Truck lot, a collaboration beer with Athentic Brewing, and many other offerings to celebrate all things Athens.

Historic Athens extends our heartfelt gratitude for every contribution the community has poured into Porchfest. We love you, Athens!
